Promoting Policies & Practices for sustainable wind farm development

The report discusses the crucial role of public authorities in wind energy planning, permitting, and monitoring to facilitate the social acceptance of wind farm projects and align them with biodiversity protection principles. Through meetings with public authorities in Greece, Latvia, and Poland in autumn 2023, the study aimed to uncover the diverse roles and responsibilities of these authorities and highlight obstacles to the sustainable acceleration of wind farm development. The report is structured into two main parts: the first part addresses the context of wind energy and the relevant European Union policy shifts in the respective countries, while the second part focus on the discussions held and presents key recommendations to accelerate the development of wind energy in a more inclusive and sustainable way.
